Luca Galizia counsels European Union (EU) and international clients on regulatory and compliance matters in food, with an emphasis on food additives, food supplements, novel foods, and borderline products (i.e., herbal medicinal products, substance-based medical devices, etc.). He also assists clients with food contact law. In particular, he assists companies in assessing the regulatory status of food and food additives, in understanding the intricacies of advertisement for food supplements and other food products, and in obtaining regulatory clearances for food-contact materials, specifically at the EU and Member State levels, and he advises companies on Mutual Recognition requirements.

Luca monitors emerging issues impacting the global food and food packaging industries and advises clients on legislative and policy developments throughout Europe, often meeting with EU regulators to advocate for his clients. Luca also drafts legal opinions on packaging materials, import and export matters, additives, novel foods, and product composition. He counsels clients on labeling (including health and nutrition claims) and advertising matters.

Prior to joining Keller and Heckman, Luca oversaw the food law and regulatory practices at an Italian law firm. He also co-founded a beverage start-up company, which gives him a unique perspective on supply chain issues and helps him to assist clients in developing overall regulatory schemes and marketing strategies. Along with his Master in Law, his education includes advanced training in food law and courses in regulatory compliance and management.
