Peter Craddock Quoted in MLex Article on Renewed Cookie Debate in EU’s Simplification Law
Keller and Heckman Partner Peter Craddock was quoted in the MLex article, “Platforms, publishers to see renewed cookie debate in EU's simplification law.” The article notes that the European Commission plans to propose a comprehensive “Digital Omnibus” in November, which will aim to simplify an array of regulations, including the EU’s AI Act, data protection, data governance, and cybersecurity rules. It will also include targeted changes to the e-Privacy Directive.
“There is a serious need for some more updates to the e-privacy regime, potentially even removing it entirely,” stated Peter. He added that the current regime is “actually preventing privacy friendly alternatives from making any inroads. If I need consent, no matter how much data I'm actually collecting, then why would anyone bother going for a privacy friendly alternative?”
