Peter Craddock Quoted in Global Data Review Article on the Privacy Shield Replacement

Keller and Heckman Partner Peter Craddock was quoted in the Global Data Review article, “Privacy Shield replacement revealed.” The article discusses a recently published executive order from the White House on “Enhancing Safeguards for United States Signals Intelligence Activities,” which details the latest iteration of the EU-US Privacy Shield. This new iteration could be invalidated by the European Commission if they determine the United States does not provide an adequate level of data protection. Peter weighed in on this possibility, saying, “I’m sceptical as to whether this will resolve the issue to the satisfaction of everyone. What I do believe is that when the European Commission makes its own assessment it will have to ask itself the very serious question of ‘Where do we want to go with this’? Is this going to lead to a more of official position by the European Commission on some of the more restrictive interpretations by certain national authorities of the Schrems II decision?”
