Herb Estreicher Quoted in Inside PFAS Policy Article on Updated EU PFAS Ban Proposal

Keller and Heckman Partner Herb Estreicher was quoted in the Inside PFAS Policy article, “EU Proposes To Curtail Sweeping PFAS Ban, Exempt Some Fluoropolymers.” The article indicates that the five EU Member States that serve as the lead issued an updated proposal to restrict the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the EU’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH). The proposal was originally released in January 2023.

According to Herb, it was “unusual” for the authorities to come back with an updated proposal, but he noted that the initial proposal received a significantly large number of comments.

“I think it became painfully clear that they really didn’t understand the use of the [fluoro]polymers and had to deal with those in some way,” said Herb. “So, that’s what they’ve done.”
