David Fischer Quoted in Chemical Watch Article on TSCA Risk Evaluations

Keller and Heckman Counsel David Fischer was quoted in the Chemical Watch article, “US EPA’s intent to streamline TSCA risk evaluations met with cautious optimism.” The article discusses the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) plans for potentially speeding up Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) risk evaluations. EPA’s Dr. Michal Freedhoff stated that the agency is "reimagining" the way it carries out risk evaluations in the coming years.

David commented that he is “pleased to see that Freedhoff is finally embracing the notion that a leaner risk evaluation process is needed.”

The agency would also focus on concentrating on each substance’s most concerning conditions of use (COUs). Related to this, David offered his opinion regarding adopting an Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessment’s findings, saying that it “would be hugely problematic given the ongoing challenges and overly conservative approaches of the IRIS programme.”
