Keller and Heckman is pleased to announce that its 20th annual Food Packaging Law Seminar will take place September 24 - 25, 2019, in Arlington, Virginia (just outside Washington, DC). As an added bonus, this year’s Food Packaging Law Seminar will include a pre-conference workshop on California’s Proposition 65 on September 23.  Keller and Heckman’s Food Packaging Law Seminar is a must-attend event for regulatory, scientific, and legal professionals throughout the food packaging supply chain—from those new to the industry to seasoned professionals. Comments from previous attendees ranged from “[a] great seminar for anyone in the food packaging industry to gain a basic understanding of the regulations in the U.S. and EU, as well as…other jurisdictions” to “[a]n excellent high-level view of global food packaging.” 

During the seminar, Keller and Heckman’s renowned food packaging attorneys and scientists will provide guidance on how to attain clearances for food-contact materials in jurisdictions around the world, from the U.S., Canada, and South America to Europe, Japan, and China.

Attendees will also learn about the latest developments impacting the global food-contact industry with additional presentations on timely topics, such as establishing regulatory status for industry sustainability initiatives and the impact of environmental initiatives on food packaging.

The pre-conference workshop on California’s Proposition 65 will include information on establishing safe harbor levels for listed chemicals, benefits and pitfalls of safe use determinations (SUDs), and how to respond to a notice of violation (NOV).  Hailed as providing “tremendous networking opportunities” with “excellent speakers,” the seminar will afford attendees the opportunity to talk one-on-one with Keller and Heckman attorneys and scientists. 

Washington, DC - The Next Generation 911 Institute (NG911 Institute), a not-for-profit organization that supports the mission of the Congressional NextGen 9-1-1 Caucus, announces the selection of Wesley K. Wright, Esq. as its new Executive Director.

Mr. Wright, a Partner at Keller and Heckman LLP, will continue serving clients for the Washington, DC-based law firm. At Keller and Heckman Mr. Wright regularly counsels corporate clients on matters before the FCC and state public utilities commissions, including compliance with rules related to 911 reliability and call handling, telecommunications service provider regulations, state tariff requirements, customer proprietary network information (CPNI), the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA), private wireless licensing, and other related obligations. Mr. Wright also represents trade associations and corporate clients on policy matters before the FCC and has advocated policy positions on the 911 reliability rules, Network Outage Reporting requirements, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Connect America Fund (CAF), and other rulemaking proceedings.

As Executive Director to the NG911 Institute, Mr. Wright will work closely with the Institute’s Board to continue promoting public awareness of Next Generation 9-1-1 and emergency communications issues. He will support the organization by providing outreach, education and support to the Congressional Caucus on NG9-1-1 and emergency communications issues.

The NG9-1-1 Institute supports the mission of the Congressional NG9-1-1 Caucus to promote public awareness of NextGen 9-1-1 and emergency communications issues and serves the Caucus as a clearinghouse of information on NG9-1-1 and emergency communications issues. In addition to hosting educational forums and serving as a daily resource to Members of Congress and their staff, the Institute’s activities include:

• Annual Honor Awards Gala – recognizing heroes and leaders in 9-1-1. The event, held at the Rayburn House Office Building, is widely attended by Members and staff of the Congressional NG9-1-1 Caucus, U.S. Congress, federal agencies, the national public safety community, and general public, and features examples of leadership and bravery in emergency response from across the country.
• NG9-1-1 Tech Fair – brings the leading technology solution vendors to Capitol Hill to demonstrate the latest innovations in emergency communications technology for Members of Congress, federal agencies, and public safety leaders.

The NG911 Institute is a not-for-profit organization, which supports the efforts of the Congressional NextGen 911 Caucus. The mission of the NG911 Institute is to assist the Congressional NextGen 911 Caucus by serving as a broad educational resource on issues important to the effective operation and advancement of NG911 services and systems. The overarching objective of the Institute is to advance the rapid implementation of NG911 in order to promote more effective emergency response, improve public safety, and advance national security interests. To this end, the Institute seeks to educate Congressional Members and staff on issues that may impact timely and effective NG911 implementation.
