Scientist (Organic Chemist) - Food Contact Materials/Food Packaging (Brussels, Belgium Office)
We are seeking a Scientist (Organic Chemist) to work in our Brussels, Belgium Office to support our flagship Food Contact Materials practice.
The candidate should have the following qualifications:
- Deep expertise in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and the analytical techniques associated with the identification and quantification of small molecules and polymers. Both theoretical and practical knowledge of these areas is required. A MSc degree in Organic/Polymer Chemistry is required, and a PhD in the same area is valued.
- Expertise in migration testing for food contact materials would be required and knowledge of the regulatory framework of the European Union would be an asset.
- Experience with REACH or other chemical control laws, cosmetics and/or medical devices legislation would also be helpful.
- Strong writing skills and an excellent command of English are required. Fluency in another European language would be a plus.
In a highly collaborative environment, the scientist will work in a team together with attorneys and other staff scientists to serve a broad range of companies mainly in the area of food contact materials. Responsibilities include assisting with strategizing and providing scientific support for the drafting of regulatory opinions, searching technical databases, attending client meetings, as well as preparing technical aspects of food-contact submissions for filing with agencies mainly in the EU, e.g., the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) and others.
