Katie Skaggs Quoted in Chemical Watch News Article on MERCOSUR’s Technical Silicone Regulation

Keller and Heckman Partner Katie Skaggs was quoted in the Chemical Watch News article, “MERCOSUR updates technical rules for silicone food contact items.” The article focuses on a new technical resolution approved by the MERCOSUR trade bloc that establishes requirements for the use of silicones in materials, packaging, and equipment intended for food contact.

According to Katie, the resolution has been under development for several years and is part of the region’s ongoing efforts to develop its food contact regulatory system. She added that this resolution is the first in MERCOSUR to offer a positive list specifically for food contact silicones, which businesses will need to adhere to.

Silicones are a common material used in food contact applications, said Katie, “so I would say there’s a regulatory need for this sort of tool.”
