House Passes TSCA Modernization Act, What's Next

The House of Representatives passed the TSCA Modernization Act (H.R. 2576) by an overwhelming majority of 398-1, on June 23, 2015.  The alternative Senate bill, the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (S. 697), has not been heard on the floor and at least one key democrat, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), has turned support to the House bill.  In a June 25, 2015 dialogue hosted by the Bipartisan Policy Center, sponsors of the two bills, Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) and Representative John Shimkus (R-IL), discussed the possibility of holding an informal conference to negotiate differences between the two bills prior to presenting the bill to a Conference of both Houses, to enhance the chances of passage.
