EPA Invites Public Comments on Candidates for Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals

Nominations to the new TSCA advisory committee for new and existing chemicals (referred to as the SACC) were formally announced in the Federal Register. Comments are due by January 9.

The complete list of nominees under consideration totals 29, including the nine experts currently serving on the existing advisory board. The mix of stakeholders nominated reflects a more diverse group than the current advisory board. The announcement states that EPA still is planning on filling “approximately” 14 slots. This wording demonstrates EPA intends to focus on gathering the appropriate group of experts rather than strictly limiting itself to a number.

At least two individuals, Kristin Thayer and Gary Ginsberg, are being considered to lead the EPA IRIS program.
