George Misko Quoted in Chemical Watch News Article on PFAS in Bottled Water, Seafood, and Infant Formula
Keller and Heckman Senior Counsel George Misko was quoted in the Chemical Watch News article, “US FDA signals potential action on PFAS in bottled water, seafood and infant formula.” The article reports that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has indicated that bottled water, seafood, and infant formula may be key targets for future PFAS risk-management efforts as it reviews testing data and other evidence to determine additional actions for reducing dietary exposure to these chemicals.
According to George, packaging and FCM manufacturers need to be prepared if FDA scrutiny of PFAS in food continues to expand.
Any inquiries from FDA should be addressed by providing the agency with “the information it needs to establish [that] no or little possible contribution of a PFAS to food could result” from an FCM product, he said.
Similarly, manufacturers should be prepared to provide “assurances as to the absence of fluorinated compounds used to make their products and the suitable purity of the starting materials used in the composition of their products,” explained George.
