Herb Estreicher Quoted in Article on EU Nanomaterial Rules

Keller and Heckman Partner Herb Estreicher was quoted in the Bloomberg Law article, “Seeking Stronger EU Nanomaterials Rules, Advocates Cite Rising Consumer Anxieties.” The article discusses how a coalition of European environmental and consumer advocates has urged the European Commission to increase regulatory oversight of nanomaterials and mandate data collection on them.

Some attorneys tracking the issue think EU member states may be sufficiently sympathetic to advocates’ concerns that the Commission may increase its regulatory oversight of nanomaterials, while others thought financial problems facing European countries would work against more stringent regulations.

If the Commission fails to act, companies making and selling nanomaterials in the European Union may face a consumer backlash similar to that encountered by companies selling genetically modified foods.
