Keller and Heckman LLP is pleased to announce Michael T.N. Fitch has joined the firm as Senior Counsel, effective January 5, 2015. Mike has wide experience in wireless, international, infrastructure and other telecommunications regulatory areas.
Mike previously served as the Chief of the Private Radio (now Wireless Telecommunications) Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission and held other senior positions at the Commission, including Senior Legal Advisor and International Advisor to the Chairman.
After the FCC, Mike moved to the U.S. Department of State, where he was Office Director and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Communications and Information Policy Bureau. He led U.S. delegations to Inmarsat, Intelsat, and International Telecommunication Union meetings.
Upon departing the State Department, Mike became Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Spectrum Management at Hughes Communications. While at Hughes, he was a member of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Board of the Satellite Industry Association. When Hughes Space and Communications was acquired by Boeing, he continued his telecommunications responsibilities as well as new programs involving Homeland Security. While at Boeing, he was Vice President of the U.S. ITU Association.
From 2005-2012, Mike served as President and CEO of PCIA – The Wireless Infrastructure Association. At PCIA, he led a successful legislative effort that resulted in the passage of Section 6409(a) of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012, which mandates collocation by right at many wireless towers and sites in the U.S. After PCIA, Fitch was a consultant on wireless, infrastructure, and technology matters. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the California Wireless Association and a Fellow in the Radio Club of America.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University.
Mike is a wonderful addition to our Telecommunications Practice Group. He’s a former Chief of the Wireless Bureau at the FCC, an advisor to FCC Chairmen, regulatory counsel at leading satellite companies, an experienced international diplomat, an engineer, a great lawyer, and a nice guy!
