Partner Lawrence Halprin Quoted on Workplace Safety and OSHA Regulations

Date: May 05, 2009

Keller and Heckman Partner Lawrence Halprin was quoted in an April 29, 2009 Workforce Management article on efforts by democrats to strengthen penalties for workplace safety violations. Included in the efforts is a bill, "the Protecting America's Workers Act," that would significantly increase civil and criminal penalties for violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act), and expand whistle blower provisions. The article noted that Mr. Halprin testified at an April 28 U.S. House of Education and Labor Committee hearing on the bill, where he explained, "Workplace safety and health could be far more effectively advanced through greater emphasis on clarifying [Occupational Safety and Health Administration] OSHA standards and implementing effective training, outreach and cooperative programs,"

The bill, introduced by Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-California), would also extend OSHA coverage to more workers. (For more information on proposed legislation, please click here.)
