Webinar: USDA Food Labeling 101


On August 15, 2017 attorney Evangelia C. Pelonis presented a webinar where she discussed the fundamentals of labeling foods regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which include meat and poultry products with particular regard to the need for pre-market label review in certain cases. Her presentation also addressed the differences in labeling requirements between the USDA and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The webinar specifically addressed the following topics:  

  • Mandatory Labeling Elements – contrasted with FDA labeling elements
  • Generic v. Sketch Approval - what are the special statement and claims that trigger sketch approval?
