We are seeking a Ph.D. Toxicologist with a minimum of 5 years of experience with FDA’s requirements for evaluating the safety of food and food ingredients.
In this non-laboratory position, the individual will assist our attorneys and other in-house staff scientists in advising a broad range of companies on safety and regulatory issues involving food and animal feed, with some work on drugs, cosmetics, and related products. Prior experience with conducting food/food ingredient safety assessments is required. Prior experience preparing generally recognized as safe (GRAS) reviews, food additive petitions, color additive petitions or new dietary ingredient notifications is preferred. Familiarity with government health and safety regulations and prior experience with FDA, EPA, and Cal EPA methods for performing statistical risk assessments is also preferred. Experience with safety evaluations for products of biotechnology is also a plus. This position requires the ability to write clearly and communicate effectively.

Title: Toxicologist - Food Packaging
We are seeking a Ph. D. Toxicologist for our food packaging practice group.
In this non-laboratory position, the individual will assist our attorneys and other in-house staff scientists with regulatory evaluations of food-contact materials marketed worldwide by reviewing and evaluating existing chemical safety data, performing structure-activity evaluations, conducting risk assessments, and advising on appropriate toxicity testing to support the safety of components of food packaging materials. A minimum of 5 years of experience in food, food-contact, or chemical safety evaluations is required, with a strong preference for experience in evaluating data relevant to oral exposures (including feeding studies, genotoxicity data, and low dose exposure literature). Experience with U.S. regulatory and risk assessment schemes (FDA, EPA, Cal EPA, etc.) is a plus, as is familiarity with the corresponding schemes in Europe (EFSA, ECHA, etc.).

We are seeking a Scientist for a non-laboratory position to work in our Brussels, Belgium Office. This position is focused on packaging and packaging issues. Responsibilities include assisting with strategizing and drafting regulatory opinions, searching technical databases, attending client meetings, as well as preparing technical aspects of food-contact notifications, petitions and dossiers for filings with agencies in the EU and U.S., e.g., the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Graduate Degree in Chemistry or equivalent is required. A working knowledge of statistics and organic, polymer, paper and analytical chemistry is desired. This individual should have a strong background in plastics and/or chemicals, preferably in the area of food packaging and food, to assist attorneys and other staff scientists in servicing a broad range of companies that make products for use with food, food contact materials, drugs, and medical devices. Experience with REACH or other chemical control laws and/or facility with IUCLID is a plus.
Strong writing skills and command of English and at least one other European language are required.
