Keller and Heckman Packaging attorneys and scientists will present at the 2024 PLASTICS Spring Food Packaging Summit, to be held in Alexandria, Virginia on June 10 – 12, 2024.

Partner Devon Hill will give a presentation titled “Beyond Food Contact – Leveraging FDA Status.” He will discuss how you can use U.S. food-contact status to help sell your products for food-contact applications in other jurisdictions and for use in other sensitive applications like cosmetic packaging and medical devices.

Partner Katie Skaggs’ presentation, “Pain in the PFAS: Business Considerations to Increased Regulation of PFAS,” will dive into considerations that businesses need to consider in the face of increased regulation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) by discussing issues related to advertising claims, testing, and more.

Partner Mark Thompson will walk through the challenges unique to bio-based polymers used in food-contact applications and provide insight on what companies can do to overcome them in his presentation, “Trends in the Regulation of Biopolymers.”

Counsel Sara Gaines will speak on “Continuing Regulation of Endocrine Active Substances.” Her presentation will give a brief introduction into endocrine active substances, the issues they raise in risk assessment, and how they are being regulated for use in plastic packaging.

Scientist Mark Hepp will examine how scientific uncertainty inherent in the risk assessment process is exploited to promote precautionary hazard-based risk management decisions in his presentation, “Hazard vs. Risk and the Precautionary Principle.”
